On top of our list is one of Britain’s iconic singers and songwriters, John Lennon. Even in his early life, uncertainty was the order of the day, having been born during the WWII era. John’s father disappeared only to come back 18 months after his birth and divorce his mother.
This uncertainty influenced bad behaviour in John’s school life and was expelled for bad behaviour in a nursery school. As a solution, John lived in foster care with his aunt. Though he would frequently visit his mother, who was dating someone different from his father, John’s aunt and her husband were John’s primary caregivers.
Eddie Murphy
Eddie Murphy is one of the most popular celebrities who were in foster care. He is an amazing comedian and actor whose works have made him among the highest-grossing Hollywood stars.
Eddie’s father was a police officer until he was murdered when Eddie was just eight years old. Eddie’s mother became ill one year after the demise of her husband, thus, unable to take care of Eddie. Together with his brother, Eddie Murphy was put in foster care giving time for his mother to recover.
Steve Jobs
You would agree that Steve Jobs revolutionised the digital space, making him one of the most successful businessmen in the world to ever live. He pioneered Apple Computers and made it one of the most successful companies in the world.
Steve Jobs was given up by his mother when he was born. Unlike many children in foster care, his journey in foster care started immediately. Luckily, he was his fostered family would become his adoptive family.

Seal is a British musician who has sold over 30 million albums in addition to various awards he has received in his life. However, he had a very bumpy beginning to his life, having been placed under foster care immediately after his birth.
The first four years of his life were in foster care before he returned to his birth parents. The history of his abusive father was overshadowed by his formative years spent under foster care, which improve the quality of his life.
Marilyn Monroe
Monroe’s life has been a real struggle. It all started with her single mother who faced criticism for living with a child outside marriage. Her struggles continued when her mother was declared insane, forcing Monroe to live in an orphanage for two years.
After spending time in an orphanage, she proceeded to live under foster care with a family friend. All her obstacles in life never deterred her from becoming one of the most famous celebrities in the world, showing that foster care can breed success.
Pierce Brosnan
You probably know Pierce Brosnan as James Bond, an iconic role he acted with undeniable perfection. Despite his successes in the film industry, he started living under the care of his grandparents when he was four years old. His mother, who was training to be a nurse, had moved away forcing Pierce to live with his grandparents for two years.
At the age of six, his grandparents died and he had to live with relatives before moving to a boarding house at the age of 10.
Neil Morrissey
Neil Morrissey, a successful actor, also lived under foster care though his story is quite different from the rest that we have shared. In his words, Neil narrated how he and his brother were taken away from their parents.
At the time, Neil was 10 years and his brother was 12 years. They did not understand why they were separated from their family. However, later in life, he came to discover that it was because of neglect.
Coco Chanel
Gabrielle Bonheur, popularly known as Coco Chanel, lost her mother at the age of 12. This unexpected turn of life forced her and her sister to an orphanage that was set up to protect the poor and rejected.
However, her life in a foster care facility did not stop her from becoming an iconic fashion celebrity in the 20th century.
Cher
Even before her birth, Cher’s birth parents divorced. After her birth, she lived with her mother until the age of two. She was moved to foster care because of her mother’s illness, which made her unable to care for her child.
After some time, she moved out of foster care and stayed under the care of her grandmother together with her mother. She’s made a name from the frequent singing gigs and movie roles she’s acted.

The first 18 months of Lorraine’s life were in foster care. However, this did not deter her from her future successes in television. She even created a programme on BBC called Fostering and Me, which was a depiction of all her experiences in foster care.
She’s also worked as an instrumental motivation to many young girls who are ambitious.
Keyshia Cole
Keyshia Cole is a top American singer and songwriter. As a celebrity, she has come out to the public to explain her experience as an adoptive child. She first became a foster child after her mother was incarcerated because of drug addiction.
With no one to take care of her, Keyshia Cole found an adoptive family in Oakland, California. In an interview, she thanked her adoptive mother for caring for her and helping her become who she is now.
Dele Alli
The English professional football player moved to another family at the age of 13. He credits the family for having nurtured his football career. Even though the living arrangements was never formalised as adoption, Dele Alli and the family lived in this family and realized his football dreams.
Simone Biles
Simone Biles is a famous artistic gymnast and a four-time Olympic gold medalist. Together with her siblings, Biles spent much of her time in foster care before she was adopted. Now as a celebrity, she narrates how it is to be a foster child.
Biles is also known for supporting the foster care system and often find time to talk to children in foster care.
